  • When deciding the app concept and overarching idea, we were given the category of lifestyle applications including fitness, food, travel, and dating. Then while brainstorming with my group, the concept we chose for On the Fly combines food and travel.

  • On the Fly is a mobile app that can assist users of all types, from the spontaneous traveler to the stressed and indecisive traveler. With a database full of top rated must-go's, On the Fly is a travel assistant meant to relieve users from the over- whelming stress of planning and decision making. This application is meant to be a unique travel experience that assists users in excursions ranging from their backyard to the other side of the world. On the Fly creates stress free and unique adventures that are curated to each specific user. This application combines the tourist basics with other users go-to recommendations for unique and authentic opportunities. With notification and roulette features, the research is done for you. Users can relax during their trips and rely on On the Fly to keep them from indecisive moments while traveling. One unique feature of this application is the roulette wheel, where users can filter the types of activities then they can spin the wheel for a random activity to do. Users can save activities to collections, which will later customize the random activities more towards their liking.

When developing On the Fly, one thing I struggled with was the inclusion of the roulette wheel. I had a lot of different ideas on how to include the wheel, but most of them seemed impractical and looked less sophisticated. Within the final design, I decided to place the wheel in the bottom left hand corner while also giving it a separate page.

This way it is included in the navigation of the app, for easy access, while being out of the way so the rest of the navigation pages are just as prioritized. In the final design, I think this made the overall look of the app more sleek and sophisticated.
