Design Manifesto

Collage + Paper Manifesto

  • Independent project (research, ideation, production)

    Indesign, Photoshop

Mixed media (collaging, paper manipulation, etc.)

    Completed Spring 2022

  • The objective of this project included a visual representation and a written manifesto of our personal stance on design principles and processes. We first began creating a cut and paste collage, which later was physically and digitally manipulated to form the visual representation poster. Throughout the paper manifesto we had to use this photo representation combined with the manifesto statement. With this combination, the paper manifesto formed an easy look into each designers goals and personal aesthetic.

  • Within my manifesto, a few of my personal design principles
    I wanted to include , ,

    1. Make every choice with purpose and intent

    3. Never take yourself or your designs too seriously

    3. Keep an open mind and stay curious

    4. Rules do not define your limitations

Inspiration + Sketches

When beginning the manifesto handout, I was unsure which direction to go and how I wanted this handout to be perceived. However, upon further discussion with my peers I felt as though the childhood toy/origami piece “fortune cookie” felt like the best option. I felt as this was the best representation of my personality and design style, because I strive to be very playful and fun. So I started by making a decoy version, and mapping out each section of the piece and how the sections come together as a whole.

When choosing how I wanted the sections to come together, I thought of it similar to the old school game. On the outside asking questions about design, then choosing a number on the inside to reveal an answer. However unlike the old school game, I chose to represent the answers with imagery to sort of hint at the response.
