Indiana Flite is a new team for the United Basketball Alliance. This project included the research and logo creation for the given team. The research for this logo included the city, name, basketball, and how these aspects could correlate. The mascot for Indiana Flite is a lightning bug, which is the state bug for Indiana.

My goal for this project was to create a unique mascot and logo that related to the basketball team name, Indiana Flite. From the research, I chose a lightning bug as the team mascot. Over all I aspired to create a fierce and superior mascot within the logo, to ultimately intimidate future opponents.
The overall challenge of this project was to create a fierce looking lightning bug. I drew a lot of inspiration from the Charlotte Hornets logo, to the left, sleek and fierce while nicely incorporating the typography within the logo. The aspect of this project that I spent the most time on was the type within the logo.
Inspiration + Sketches
I wanted to create almost a custom type, or mainly a custom layout that worked well with the mascot. I experimented with many different designs, including following the wing pattern and incorporating the “I” into the body. Overall I chose this layout, because it looked the most sleek, bold and refined.
One version of the logo is with the firefly mascot and the team name, for utilization within team gear, commercial use, etc. The second version of the logo includes two color variations, mainly used for player uniforms but not limited to these uniforms.
